In 2020 we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vancouver Island Counselling. Since our very first member company in 1980, we have worked hard to change lives by bringing compassion, hope and skilled counselling care to employees, their families and their organizations. Although there will be a time to celebrate this year, we would like to begin by thanking the many people who have contributed to the growth, stability and well being of our program to the many workplaces and communities we have served for 40 years.
Thank you to those who were inspired and saw a need for us in workplaces and created our non profit program in 1980. Thanks to all who have served on our Board of Directors, guiding and shaping us into the counselling group we now have become. Thanks to all who have chosen to work with us and offer us their skills, talents and healing presence for four decades. And thanks to the thousands of employees, families and organizations who have trusted us with the personal challenges of their lives and the opportunity to bring them hope, growth and transformed well being.
Going forward, we commit to continuously improve and develop our services in ways that are meaningful, distinctive and responsive to you. And we shall remain rooted in the local and community based values and virtues that guided us in 1980 and guide us today.
Our Service Priorities
“A great organization is one that delivers superior performance and makes a distinctive impact over a long period of time. For a business, financial returns are a perfectly legitimate measure of performance. For a social sector organization, however, performance must be assessed relative to mission, not financial returns. In the social sectors, the critical question is not “How much money do we make per dollar of invested capital?” but “How effectively do we deliver on our mission and make a distinctive impact, relative to our resources?”
– Jim Collins in “Good To Great And The Social Sectors” (2005)
We establish service priorities that align with our core values, mission and vision.
The services and programs that we offer are designed to bring a healing and transformative benefit to the employee (and family), the workplace, the employer and our communities. We support each organization we work with by delivering counselling and other resources that focus on employee and workplace wellness.
We strive to make a significant difference in people’s lives and are guided by a number of goals and values in this effort. We exist to promote the well being of employees and their families. We believe in the value of life- long learning. We also believe in the principles of prevention and intervention. Onsite workplace initiatives heighten the profile of our services and encourage individuals and families to seek assistance earlier rather than later.
We believe in the importance of availability and accessibility and implement this with a competent staff that can be contacted immediately in the office or over the telephone. We believe in the value of teamwork. Each and every member of our team plays a significant role in the delivery of our service and your overall level of satisfaction with our program.
It is our service delivery goal to continue offering “superior performance” and making “a distinctive impact over a long period of time”. We are committed to meet and exceed your expectations. We actively solicit your feedback to determine our success in this area.
